ABOUT THE EVENT

Three private modules covering 20th and 21st Century global art movements, and as contextualized through the Middle East lens. Content emphasis on artist's stories, using primary source material.

Session 1:

 Key global art movements of the late 19th thru 20th Century

Studying key figures leading these global movements, while also addressing how Middle Eastern artists integrated or responded to this in their practice:

Session 2:

"West inspired by East / or West in East"

Focus on key international artists who were inspired by the region, through art historical research or physical travels to the Arab and Iranian world

Session 3:

Middle Eastern top modern and contemporary artists

Pick list of key artists to look out for discussing major Institutional shows, key writings and published material, recent museum acquisitions, auction results, etc.

Mid East Art is a digital storytelling platorm of art and culture of the Middle East region. Founded and run by Suzy Sikorski, the platform is an archival reference to analyze regional art movements while also readdresses global art history within the context of the Middle East region. Mid East Art content is displayed through curated series, showcased in essays, video and text interviews, published articles, and as shared on social media. Mid East Art collaborations include Art Dubai, Sharjah Biennial, Barjeel Art Foundation, Sharjah Art Museum, Aisha Alabbar Gallery, Zidoun-Bossuyt Gallery, Bayt Al Mamzar, and private residential gatherings alongside trips to Hurghada, Egypt; Al Ula, KSA and Dhahran, KSA. Commissioned projects include Warehouse 421, artmejo, UAE Embassy, USA, afikra, and Safir.
